This past weekend at church we watched an awesome and convicting video entitled “The Return of the Daughters”. It is basically a documentary about the role of daughters in the family and how it relates to the father. Wow.
It was really amazing and incredible to watch. There were so many things said in it that were convicting and encouraging. So many things that I have never really thought of, even having just recently had my first little girl. One thing in particular that stood out was stated by Voddie Bachman, a minister in the Houston area. He said, “A woman like Condoleezza Rice submits to the will of another man, such as George Bush and she is considered a hero, yet a woman that submits in the same way, her will to her father and she is questioned about it and looked down upon.” (The quote may not be exact, and I apologize if too misquoted, but that is pretty much the premise.) How true. Society is so messed up that if a woman respects her father and does what she can to help him out she is basically shunned as an outcast.
I encourage all of you men to watch this, it is a must see. It certainly is not the end-all-be-all concerning your relationship with your daughters, but it is a great starting point. It has really opened up my eyes to see just how vital and important daughters are and can be to the family.
Nehemiah 4:14
And I looked, and arose and said to the nobles, to the leaders, and to the rest of the people, “Do not be afraid of them. Remember the Lord, great and awesome, and fight for your brethren, your sons, your daughters, your wives, and your houses.”
