I recently attended the "Father & Son Retreat" put on by Vision Forum in Colorado. One message that really stood out - one of many - was that of raising men.
We are raising up "men", not "boys", so we need to start treating our sons as men from an early age. One way that we are doing this in the Hall household has to do with the way we dress.
I went out and bought my three oldest sons some pants and some collared shirts for them to wear for "school" and throughout the day. (Let me tell you that just this simple change has made a huge difference in their attitudes and work ethics.) I will be sharing more on the importance of this "Initiative" in subsequent post and the affect it can and should have on our country, but I wanted to share something cute and awesome with you guys for now.
We of course hang up the pants and shirts, and as you know the bars in the closets can sometimes be a bit high for smaller children. Well, a few days into the new initiative my soon-to-be five year old came out to the living room while they were suppose to be getting dressed and said, "I can't reach my man clothes." It was truly one of those precious moments to cherish.
It also showed me that they are excited about this new mindset and really crave it. I guess that only makes natural sense since pretty much all boys want to be "just like daddy" to begin with.
Anyway, just thought I'd share. Also, I am going to try to update my pictures soon - hopefully.

That's a great post. My husband has a blog as well maybe you guys could get to know each other. He's pretty busy these days but tries to post as the Lord leads him. Maybe you could drop him a comment. He's at www.fatheringhearts.blogspot.com
Blessings.
An excellent post and experience for you and your son. I would like to encourage you to read James B. Stenson's book, Father, the Family Protector. Another good read is Raising a Modern Day Knight: A Father's Role in Guiding His Son to Authentic Manhood. Both of these I have been learning a good deal from in my journey through fatherhood.
Hi there!
Lol... that's too precious!
I think it makes sense to get them dressed up. It's probably the same effect that school uniforms had when originally initiated, but small kids don't have uniform in most schools and that is the crucial time when good foundations must be set for strong values.
Good job and good blog! :)
Found you through your wife's page which I found through Word Filled Wednesday! :D
May you and your family have a great day!
I enjoyed reading your post. I had never thought of how boys dress. We have always dressed our boys the way you suggest but we live in AR and most boys wear shirts with collars and pants. Doylene
I love the post Man Clothes. Our children and grandchildren have always dressed the way you suggest but I didn't connect it with man hood. I just thought they wanted to be like Dad. Your pictures are beautiful. Thank you for sharing. I wish my husband would write. I will show him your blog. In Christ, Doylene
