I must first start off this entry by apologizing for not being real active here as of late. I have been dealing with church issues, and a VERY pregnant wife, as well as being a little down myself dealing with a head cold. Please do pray for Chelsey and I as we are still waiting on little Dennis to join us and both of us now dealing with irritating medical issues; her cadiwhompus pelvis and my head cold.
So, in case you missed it last week, one of the network stations did a piece on how the Religious Right vote is now not exclusively Republican. The piece focused in on how stalwart leader Rick Warren had none other than Hillary Clinton speak to his church concerning her policy on AIDS. Here it comes…ARE YOU KIDDING ME!!!
Rick defended it by explaining it away as being part of a ministry of healing. Where he made an excellent point about a ministry of healing and how important it is to be concerned about these issues, might I suggest Mr. Warren a bit more responsibility on who you choose to be tied to in this endeavor. I find it totally irresponsible that someone with a bit more of a moral compass was not found to speak to his church about these issues. (Besides, I thought there was a big stir up recently on churches not promoting politics from the pulpit. Yes, sarcasm. I personally feel that you should speak on political issues from the pulpit as the teachings of God and the Bible should influence EVERY area of your life, which brings me to my next point.)
I must say that I find it hard to understand how any true God-fearing, Bible believing Christian can be a Democrat. (Now-a-days understandably how one can even be a Republican either, but…) My wife and I are “one issue voters”. Now what we mean by that is not the fact that we vote concerning only one issue, it is simply a starting point. That issue is abortion. We take that one issue and nullify any candidates that support abortion. This tends to wipe out ALL of the Democrats, and some of the Republicans. We will then go on to another issue ruling out or confirming candidates, and continue this process until we have narrowed it down to the one we may wish to vote for.
As a Christian, I cannot bring myself to support someone that carries out actions, or supports any policy that is clearly against GOD’s WORD.
Having said all of that, how can a man in Mr. Warren’s position be so irresponsible as to have someone of Mrs. Clinton’s lack of morality any where near his church? Here is a woman that is for abortion, feminism, homosexual rights, etc. … How does that line up with what is suppose to be being promoted in church, God’s standards and living in the world and not of it?
Mr. Warren, you have just lied down with dogs, and you are going to get fleas. It is irresponsible to have someone such as Mrs. Clinton speak to your church about support for AIDS when there are a number of other candidates that support AIDS research, yet have a higher standard of morals than Mrs. Clinton

Lie Down with Dogs and You Will Get Fleas

hey dan...i disagree with you on this. if we're going to "judge" everyone that gets on our stage or speaks in front of our churches, NO ONE would be good enough to be there - it would be emtpy. I don't agree with Hillary's views, but she is in the battle to fight AIDS, and I applaud Rick for reaching out to her when every other church in the country shuns her. I always came back with the question of what our Lord would do - and I think He'd reach out to her, not shun her. Rick Warren takes a lot of hits, but in reality, I think he's putting his money where his mouth is - he's truly trying to live out the Christian life, unlike so many preachers who are arrogant and hypocritical.
You also take a shot at the seeker sensitive services. I agree in some ways with you. However, the question is - are they watering down the gospel, or are they sticking to the Word? In Saddleback's case (Rick's church), they don't water it down - it's the straight forward gospel (Jesus, sin, the cross) and not some country club version. My problem with these megachurches (like Osteen in Houston) is the "health & wealth gospel" that is an outright lie. I like to think our church is "seeker obsessed" - we're not gonna water the message down, but if we can find a creative way for the unchurched to get in our church, we'll do it. I Cor 9:22-23, Paul says that he tries to "find common ground with everyone so that he might bring them to Christ". Was Paul seeker sensitive - you bet! And why? to bring people to Jesus. It's ok, as long as the gospel isn't being avoided.
In His Grip
Chris
